MORE FUN
MORE PLAY
 MORE WINNING

The Buzz is Back!  In its inaugural year, Camp SuperFly offered chapters around the country a chance to win grant dollars for summer camps through a series of cool challenges, fun activities, and checkups at HTCs. By the time the competitors reached the finish line, players learned more about hemophilia and chapters earned more than $70,000 to help make their camps even more super.

Now the wait is over. Camp SuperFly II takes flight in April and play soars through the end of June. And this year, it’s even bigger and better. Teams will compete in one of three divisions based on team size, so crowning the top three winners in each division means there will be TRIPLE the number of prizes compared to the inaugural year. Camp SuperFly II also offers all-new challenges customized for kids, teens, and adults. It’s easy to participate, fun to play, and there are even more ways to win money for your chapter.

We need your help! For more information on how to participate contact Cathy Baggett (888) 703-3269 email cathy@thbdf.org.

Camp Freedom 2005 was awesome.  Children from across the state came together for a week of fun and learning at Brandon Spring Group Camp in Dover, Tennessee.  Camp Freedom is for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15 who are affected by bleeding disorders.  Campers spend the week swimming, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, and much more.  It is a time when children are surrounded by others who understand what it is like to live with a bleeding disorder.  The week long camp is free of charge to Tennessee residents or those who regularly attend a Tennessee Hemophilia Treatment Center.  Camp will be in July, 2006 the dates will be set later.  Call THBDF for more information.

We would like to thanks those that made camp possible: The Briggs Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Wyeth, Baxter, Bayer, ZLB Behring, Caremark, Curative, Novo Nordisk, Matrix Health, Pediatric Services of America, Factor Health Management, Care for Life, Versa Pharm, Hemophilia Health Services, and Smith Brothers Car Wash.

About Summer Camp

The Foundation offers a week long camp for children with hemophilia and other related bleeding disorders between the ages of 6 and 15.

Camp Freedom is held at Brandon Springs Group Camp located along the trace at Land Between the Lakes.  Camp has been held at this location since 1981 and is provided at no cost to families because the camp is fully funded by donations and fund-raisers.  Camp Freedom has been one of the biggest programs provided by the Foundation.

It has an experienced and educated staff.  Many of the staff members of camp were campers themselves so there are a great deal of staff members with bleeding disorders.  There are also staff members from hemophilia industry, local volunteers, and a trained medical staff consisting of several nurses and a doctor.  All staff members are given a background check as a safety precaution for the children that attend.

Camp Freedom offers many fun filled activities like swimming, fishing, canoeing, arts & crafts, and a climbing wall just to name a few.  Camp also offers a variety of educational programs.

The children get to learn about their individual bleeding disorder and about other bleeding disorders as well.  Self-infusion is an educational program offered at camp where children get to learn the correct way in which to administer factor either by IV or by using a port.  Some children have learned to self-infuse as young as 7-years-old, but by their own choice of course!

Camp Freedom is a time where children with bleeding disorders can be among other children like themselves.  Camp can help build self-esteem and self-confidence through many activities provided.  Camp can also help to break the sense of isolation children may face due to their bleeding disorder.  Life-long friendships develop at camp and can carry on for many years.  If you or your child would like to learn more about camp or sponsoring camp please contact the Tennessee Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Foundation at 1-888-703-3269.
